We often give our power away to our disease, or a diagnosis. It's my genetics or addiction has control. BUNK! Medical science is proving time and time again that the brain is resilient and can respond positively to the right stimulus. Likewise, Did you know that expose it to the wrong stimulus (toxins, pollution, drugs), it will respond poorly.  Makes sense, right? 

We used to think that our brains were just this 3 lb. bowl of noodles floating on top of our bodies.  But we've learned that there is a blood/brain connection.  Our brains can leak.  Have you heard of leaky gut? Same concept. We have body disorders that effect the brain because some chemicals or bacteria can cross the blood/brain barrier. So how do we fix our brains? Well, we have to fix our bodies first!

But how?  You guessed: food. And it's pretty simple.  Food is the most powerful drug on the planet.  Food IS information.  It tells our bodies what to do, what to process, how to do it and when.  Without the right quality of information, it's like making photo copies of photo copies.  The quality gets degraded, you can't see clearly, you're not sure what your instructions are, it's stressful, you have to work harder to understand the information and likely will have a miserable experience.  Sound about right?


Things that are damaging to our brains and should be avoided as much as possible:

  1. Sugar.  It's the worst thing for your brain
  2. Gluten
  3. Flour
  4. Refined Vegetable Oils
  5. Trans Fats
  6. Alcohol (in excess.  A little bit is ok, but a little bit more isn't)
  7. MSG
  8. Aspartame
  9. Heavy Metals
  10. Excitotoxins
  11. Stain Drugs
  12. Sleep Deprivation
  13. Stress

The sad thing about statin drugs, is that they create amyloid in the brain, which is the sticky substance that mucks up the brain in Alzheimer's.  Yet when people report these symptoms while on statins, doctors often dismiss the complaint as being "age-related." Shameful!  And that leads to stress.  When we're stressed, our hippocampus, or memory center, actually shrinks!

Because we can't live in a bubbles, we want to fortify our bodies as much as possible with phytonutrients and antioxidants.  In other words, eat the rainbow! Dark, colorful foods made by Mother Nature!  Eat lots of proteins--this does not mean animal protein-- and MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides like coconut oil)  I often recommend these supplements as a MUST for anyone living in the modern world who has a busy life and doesn't grow their own food.  Oh you too?  Great!

  • Take a good quality multi-vitamin
  • fish oil (or other omega 3 supplement, if you're vegetarian or vegan)
  • probiotics 
  • Vitamin D

Boom!  Once you fix your body, and get it running optimally, you'll be able to fix your brain.  You have the power to do all these things.  Simple enough, yes?  You don't need a lot of time, money, or education.  Anyone can do it at any time.  Now that's power!! What do you think about that?
